Your Awkward Brazilian Waxing Questions, Answered (No Judgment, Ever)
Let’s be real — booking a Brazilian wax for the first time (or the fiftieth time) can come with a mental list of questions you’re too embarrassed to Google, let alone ask out loud. Here at Wax and Bare It in Vineyard, UT, I’ve heard every question there is, and I promise you: nothing you’re wondering about is new to me. So let’s clear the air on the stuff nobody wants to ask their esthetician directly.
Do I have to take everything off?
Nope. This is your service, your call. Whether you want a simple clean-up along the bikini line, a full Brazilian, or something in between, it’s completely customizable. I’ll always ask what you’re going for before we start, so there’s zero guesswork and zero pressure to go further than you want.
Do I have to fully undress?
For a Brazilian, yes — your undergarments need to come off so I can work efficiently and get a clean result on all sides. But here’s the thing: I do this every single day, multiple times a day. I’ll walk you through exactly what’s happening at every step, use professional draping and positioning to keep things as comfortable as possible, and keep the whole thing quick and matter-of-fact. Feeling a little nervous the first time is completely normal — it goes away fast once you realize how routine this is for me.
What if I haven’t “prepped” perfectly?
Come as you are. Basic hygiene is great, but you don’t need to shower right before, shave first, or stress about it being “perfect.” If you want to freshen up before your appointment, my studio has everything you need. I’ve seen it all, and I promise your appointment is not the moment I’m judging your routine.
Will you judge how I look?
Absolutely not. Every body is different — different hair growth, different skin, different anatomy — and none of it is a surprise to me. My job is technique, safety, and getting you smooth results. That’s it. There’s no scorecard.
What about ingrown hairs, bumps, or discoloration?
Incredibly common, and nothing to be self-conscious about. I see this constantly, and I can point you toward products and habits that improve your skin’s texture over time. If anything, that’s exactly the kind of thing I want you to bring up — I’d rather help you fix it than have you avoid your appointment because of it.
I have stretch marks, scars, or loose skin — is that a problem?
Not even a little. These are all completely normal parts of having a body, and I simply adjust my technique to work with your skin safely. You don’t need flawless skin to get waxed.
Is there such a thing as “too much hair”?
No. My wax is formulated to handle any hair type or density. If it’s grown out longer than usual, I might trim it first just to make the service more comfortable and effective — but there’s no such thing as too much for me to work with.
Can I get waxed on my period?
Yes, just wear a tampon or menstrual cup. Your skin may run a little more sensitive during your cycle, so there’s a chance of slightly more discomfort than usual — but it’s still totally safe to keep your appointment.
Can I get waxed while pregnant?
In most cases, yes, as long as you have a healthy, doctor-approved pregnancy. Skin sensitivity can increase, so just communicate with me about how you’re feeling and we’ll adjust as needed.
Does the butt strip actually hurt?
It’s a quick pinch — over before you know it. Most clients tell me it wasn’t nearly as bad as they built it up to be in their head.
Can I still get waxed if I’m bigger?
Yes, absolutely. Every body type is welcome here, and I’m equipped to position and support you comfortably so you get the same quality service as anyone else.
Am I going to smell weird? Is that going to be obvious?
Odor comes from bacteria, sweat, and trapped moisture — not from hair itself. In fact, regular waxing tends to reduce odor over time by clearing out buildup. Stick with good hygiene, breathable fabrics, and the aftercare products I recommend, and you’ll be in great shape.
Can I have sex after my wax?
Give it 24 hours if you can. If you don’t want to wait that long, hold off for at least 8-12 hours minimum — your skin has just been exfoliated and is more sensitive than usual, so there’s a higher chance of irritation. If you do go sooner: keep the area clean, avoid excess friction, wear something loose and breathable afterward, and skip it entirely if you’re dealing with noticeable redness or tenderness.
The bottom line: every question on this list is one I’ve heard before, and none of them make you high-maintenance, weird, or unprepared. My studio is a judgment-free zone — that’s not a tagline, it’s just how I run things. If you’ve been putting off your first Brazilian because of one of these worries, consider this your sign to book.
