Don't Blame Your Waxer For These Things (Yes, Even Ingrown Hairs)

I love my clients, and I want you to have the smoothest, happiest skin possible. But some things aren't on your esthetician, and a little honest talk will get you better results. Here are the ones I hear most.

1. Ingrown Hairs

Ingrowns are the number one thing people blame on their waxer. The truth is that hair removal only sets the stage. What happens afterward depends on your skin, your hair growth pattern, and what you do in the days and weeks that follow.

Ingrowns usually come from dead skin buildup trapping new hairs, tight clothing rubbing the area, skipping exfoliation, picking or scratching, or sweating and sitting in workout clothes. My technique and skin prep are dialed in, so if your hairs are growing in sideways, let's look at your routine first.

2. "Your Soft Wax Gave Me Ingrowns"

Soft wax doesn't cause ingrown hairs. Wax removes hair from the follicle, and what matters is how well it's applied, how the skin is prepped, and how it's removed. I prep every client's skin properly and use a technique that follows your hair growth. Blaming the wax type is like blaming the pan when dinner burns. If you've had ingrowns with every wax or every waxer, that's a sign to look at aftercare and skin type, not the product.

3. Skipping the Aftercare I Recommend

I recommend specific products because I know they work, and I've seen the difference on my own table. When clients skip them, use the wrong ones, or swap in whatever's under their bathroom sink, results suffer. Aftercare isn't an upsell. It's the second half of your service.

Here's the part that's on you:

• Exfoliate gently a few days after your appointment, and keep it up

• Moisturize so skin stays supple and hairs can surface

• Skip heat, friction, and sweat for 24 to 48 hours

• Don't pick, squeeze, or shave between appointments

If your aftercare isn't perfect, your results won't be either. That's not a dig, just how skin works.

4. Googling First, Asking Your Esthetician Second

Google will tell you a tropical fruit oil cures everything, then tell you to stop waxing altogether. I'm licensed, I'm trained, and I've seen your skin in person. I can tell you whether it's an ingrown, a bump from irritation, or something else entirely. Text me or ask at your appointment. I'd rather answer a "silly" question than watch you try a TikTok remedy that makes it worse.

6. Not Telling Me Things

Medications, retinol use, sunburn, a recent peel, skin conditions: I need to know. I can't adjust for what I don't know, and it's not fair to blame me for a reaction to something I wasn't told about.

The Bottom Line

I take pride in my work, and I'll always own it when something's on me. But great skin is a partnership. You show up prepped and follow through on aftercare, and I'll do my part with skill, clean technique, and products I trust.
